CWG 2020: Naveen clinches 6th wrestling gold for India defeating Pakistan's Sharif Tahir

Birmingham: It was a perfect day for Indian wrestling as wrestler Naveen won the 6th gold medal in the sport defeating Pakistan's Sharif Tahir in the Men's 74 KG match in the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG).

Earlier on Saturday, Ravi Kumar Dahiya won the fourth gold, and woman wrestler Vinesh Phogat bagged the sixth gold for India. The other three came from Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Deepak Punia on Friday.

Naveen started dominating from the first half after a tough contest and managed to gain points over his opponent.

At the time of the break, the Indian was ahead by 2-0.

In the second half, he grabbed more points and sealed his victory by a massive 9-0 margin.

Naveen started his campaign by winning the round of 16 match against Nigeria's Ogbonna Emmanuel John 13-3.

Later, he won the Quarter-final against Hong Yeo Lou of Singapore by a margin of 10-0 on technical superiority.

He continued his power play in the semi-final as he defeated England's Charlie Bowling.

The Indian wrestler defeated the host country athlete with a comprehensive margin of 13-1.

Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi also congratulated the young wrestler on Twitter.
