Ex-Australian cricketer Shane Warne turns 46
Kolkata, Sept 13 (IBNS) 'The Sheikh of Tweak', ex-Australian cricketer Shane Warne, celebrated his 46th birthday on Sunday, posting a “Happy Birthday to me,†on Twitter.
Born in 1969, Upper Ferntree Gully, Victoria in Australia, Warne made his debut at the age of 23 in 1992.
He is widely regarded as the best bowler of all-time and frequently makes it to the top bowler’s list.
In 145 Tests, he has amassed a mammoth 708 wickets and another 293 in 194 ODI’s making him one of the two bowlers in the history of the game to surpass the 1000 wickets mark and currently occupies the second spot behind Muttiah Muralitharan in the list of highest wicket takers in international cricket.
Besides being a World Cup winner, Warne has also won a series of accolades and awards in his long span of 15 years.
His dismissal of Englishman Mike Gatting with a near impossible delivery is widely regarded as ‘The Ball of the Century’.
In 1994, just two years after his debut, Shane was named as the ‘Cricketer of the Year’ by Wisden.
Six years later he was adjudged the ODI Player of the Year.
The same year, Wisden selected him as ‘One of the Five Cricketers of the Century’.
In 2006 he was named the ‘Test Player of the Year’.
Though a prolific cricketer, his off-the-field activities have marred an otherwise excellent cricketer.
From book-making, to extramarital affairs to consuming banned substances and incurring a ban, the ‘offie’ has done it all.
Post retirement, Shane Warne dedicates his time playing poker, cricket commentary and presenting the game that he cherished as a cricketer.
