Ghana and Botswana remain unbeaten

Dubai, Apr 10 (IBNS): Sierra Leone will look to get its first win of the tournament against Nigeria on Monday

Wins by Ghana and Botswana at the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Qualifier – Africa sees them share the top of the table at the end of day 2 in Benoni, while Zambia recorded their first win.

In the West African derby at Sahara Park Willowmoore B, Ghana chose to field first and got off to a great start taking 5 wickets in the first 15 overs. Godfred Bakiweyem, David Ankrah and Vincent Ateak shared 9 wickets to skittle the Nigerians out for just 51 inside 29 overs. The Ghanaians chased it down in 13.5 overs to catapult them to the top of the table, above Botswana on net run rate.

In Saturday’s other matches, Botswana’s bowling attack was far too strong for Tanzania. Karabo’s Mothlanke and Modise shared a 63 run partnership for the 2nd wicket to ensure Botswana posted a defendable total. Chasing 155 the Tanzanians fell 26 runs short, all out for 128. Druv Maisuria and Reginald Nehonde between them took 6 wickets for 51 runs.

Zambia recorded their first win of the tournament with a 41-run triumph over Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone had Zambia 92 for 7 after 26 overs but could not drive home their advantage with the tail wagging to post 199. The last 3 wickets put on 107 in 20.2 overs.

Sierra Leone can take heart from this performance and will look to get their first win of the tournament against Nigeria on Monday.

In Monday’s other matches at Sahara Willowmoore Park, Zambia face Tanzania and Botswana plays Ghana for top spot.
