Imagine Mr Bean brought into the team: Sanath Jayasuriya slams PM Ranil Wickremesinghe

Colombo: Former Sri Lankan captain Sanath Jayasuriya on Wednesday targeted country's PM Ranil Wickremesinghe after he declared a nationwide state of emergency and compared him with comic character Mr. Bean.

Ranil Wickremesinghe declared a state of emergency after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled Sri Lanka amid protests.

The PM also imposed indefinite curfew in the Western Province.

"Imagine Mr Bean brought into the team despite selectors rejected him because he is an ACTOR & not a cricketer! However, not only does he play when umpire rules him out refuses to leave the crease ! No more games. Last man has no chance to bat alone in cricket. Leave GRACEFULLY," Jayasuriya tweeted.

Sri Lanka, an island nation on the Indian Ocean, has been battling a severe economic and fuel crisis for the past several weeks.

The country is also witnessing protests against the ruling government for the past several months now.
