India beat England by eight wickets, Kuldeep, Rohit Sharma shine

Nottingham, July 13 (IBNS): All-round performance by India helped beat England by eight wickets in the first ODI match of the series here on Thursday.

After bowling out England for 268 runs, with Kuldeep Yadav picking up six wickets, India batsmen reached 269 runs by losing only two wickets with 59 balls to spare.

Sharma, who was dropped on 92, continued his strong form with the willow and completed his 18th ODI century.

He then went on to score 137 runs from 114 balls, hammering 14 boundaries and four sixes.

Shikhar Dhawan contributed 40 runs with his willow.

After Dhawan perished, skipper Virat Kohli came down to the park and added 75 runs.

Kohli hit nine boundaries in his knock.

Kohli and Sharma contributed  167-run in their partnership and it ended with Kohli's departure at a point when Indian scorecard read  226-2.

India scored the remaining 43 runs without much opposition.

Earlier, India bowled out England for 268 in 49.5 overs.

Winning the toss, India had invited England to bat first.

Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes were the top scorers for England.

Buttler and Stokes scored 53 and 50 runs respectively.

Kuldeep Yadav had the best bowling figure for India.

Kuldeep alone picked six English wickets, conceding just 25 runs in 10 overs.

India took 1-0 lead in the series with the victory.
