India defeats New Zealand by 321 runs, wins series 3-0

Ashwin, who had played the nemesis of the Kiwis also in the first innings bagging six wickets for 81 runs, had an awesome figure in the second with  seven for 59 in only 13.5 overs finishing with a haul of 13 wickets in the match.

Ravindra Jadeja and pacer Umesh Yadav picked up the three other wickets in New Zealand's second innings, having picked up two and one respectively.

For the visitors, Ross Taylor was the highest scorer with 32 runs, followed by Martin Guptill (29) and skipper Ken Williamson (27), who tried to put up a semblance of resistance to the team's collapse that was complete in 44.5 overs.

India had set a target of 475 runs for the visitors as they declared their second innings at 216 for 3 wickets just an hour after lunch.

Coming to bat, New Zealand  lost opener Tom Latham, who was adjudged leg before while playing a  Umesh Yadav delivery in the second over.

As the brief resistance by Ken Williamson and Martin Guptill was over, the  Kiwi batting order crumbled as wickets fell like ninepins- from 102/4 to 153 all out with seven batsmen being out within a very short span.

Earlier, a brilliant unbeaten  century by Cheteshwar Pujara (101), completed with a boundary, and a solid knock of 50 by Gautam Gambhir steered India to the position where it left the game for the visitors to take up the gauntlet.

Pujara was ably assisted by Ajinkya Rahane, not out with 23 after skipper Virat Kholi was dismissed for 23.

Starting the second session on an individual score of 50 and a team total of 127 for 2,  Pujara got going immediately, as did Virat Kohli, his partner.

After India had added 109 runs in 28 overs in the morning, with Gautam Gambhir going great guns, Pujara took charge after lunch, finding the boundaries with drives, late-cuts and sweeps to keep the scoreboard constantly moving.
