India win ODI series, England clinch consolation win in last ODI

Leeds, Sept 5 (IBNS) The dream of registering a whitewash failed as England defeated India by 41 runs in the final match of the five-match ODI series here on Friday.

Despite a sensational 87-run knock by Ravindra Jadeja, India were all out for 253 in 48.4 overs as they attempted to chase down England's 294 for seven.

Indian batsmen looked less dominating in the last ODI with only Shikhar Dhawan (31), Ambati Rayudu (53), MS Dhoni (29) and Jadeja (87) shining with the willow.

The rest of the Indian batsmen struggled in the match with Virat Kohli (13) and men-in-form Ajinkya Rahane (0) and Suresh Raina (18) failing miserably in the fifth encounter of the series.

Jadeja played some good shots and hit nine boundaries and two sixes in his 68-ball heroic knock.

Indian batsmen never looked in a position to reach the target.

England's Ben Stokes took three wickets by giving away 47 runs.

Earlier in the day, it was Joe Root who smashed a brilliant 113-run knock to help England post 294 runs on scoreboard.

Apart from Root, who hit 10 boundaries and three sixes, Alaister Cook (46) and Jos Buttler (49) got some runs in the match.

Mohammed Shami took two wickets for India.

India bounced back strongly to win the series 3-1 after losing the Test series against England earlier.

While Root grabbed the 'Player of the Match' title, India's Suresh Raina received the 'Player of the Series' award.

Brief scorecard:
England: 294 for seven in 50 overs (J Root 113; M Shami 2/52)

India 253 allout in 48.4 overs (R Jadeja 87; B Stokes 3/47)
