Indian cricket scenario: BCCI calls SGM on May 29

New Delhi/UNI: The BCCI has called a Special General Meeting (SGM), to be held virtually on May 29 to discuss the upcoming cricket season in India.

In a notice to the state associations for the meeting, BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated that there will be a 'discussion on the upcoming cricket season in view of the pandemic situation prevailing in India'.

According to the Cricbuzz report, the details on the nature of the meeting have not been mentioned in the short SGM notice.

However, it is believed that the emergency conclave could be on the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be staged by the BCCI in October-November.

There have been serious doubts over the hosting of the T20 Word Cup in India with the second wave of COVID-19 sweeping across the country.

The SGM has been scheduled ahead of the ICC meeting on June 1 when the game's governing body is likely to decide on the staging of the event. The ICC is expected to take a call depending on the COVID situation in India.

The UAE has been named by the ICC as the designated standby venue for the tournament and since the suspension of the IPL midway earlier this month, the BCCI's claims of hosting the ICC event have considerably weakened.

The fate of domestic cricket will also be discussed in the SGM.
