Indian defeat SL by 169 runs

Cuttack, Nov 2 (IBNS): India thrashed Sri Lanka by 169 runs in the first ODI match of the series here on Sunday.

Posting 363 for five on the scoreboard, Indian bowlers then bowled out the neighbours for 194 with 64 balls to spare.

Rahane smashed 111 from 108 balls as he scored his second ODI century and Shikhr Dhawan returned to form with his 113 runs.

The openers set the platform for scripting the victory with their 231 runs stand.

After Dhawan was dismissed by

Ashan Priyanjan, Suresh Raina joined the party as he hit 34-ball 52. He smashed four boundaries and three sixes in his knock.

Skipper Virat Kohli (22) and Ambati Rayudu (27) contributed with their willows.

S Randiv picked up three wickets for Sri Lanka.

Indian bowlers performed well in the match and specially Ishant Sharma destroyed the visitors by picking up four wickets.

In his eight overs, he picked up four wickets by giving away 34 runs.

Umesh Yadav and

Akshar Patel  took two wickets each while R Ashwin and Suresh Raina scalped one each.

Mahela Jayawardene was the only Lankan batsman to shine with the bat as he scored 43.
