IPL: Delhi Capitals defeat Mumbai Indians by 37 runs

Mumbai, Mar 24 (UNI) Delhi Capitals came out with flying colours in the 12th edition of the cash-rich tournament as they defeated Mumbai Indians by 37 runs in their opening game at Wankhede stadium here on Sunday. 

Risabh Pant smashed an unbeaten 78 off 27 balls with the help of 7 sixes and 7 fours as Delhi Capitals posted a massive score of 213/6 on board.

Alongwith Pant, Colin Ingram too contributed and scored 47 runs in 32 balls with 7 fours and one six ,while Dhawan scored 43 runs in 36 balls with 4 fours and one six.

Showing his skills with the ball, Mitchell McClenaghan took 3 wickets giving 40 runs in his 4 overs.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field first.

Chasing a mammoth target of 214 run, Mumbai Indians start wasn’t up to the mark as they lost Captain Rohit Sharma early.

Rohit, playing in his 300th T20 match was dismissed by Ishant Sharma on 14.

Krunal Pandya's cameo 32 off 15 (5 fours, 1 six) gave MI some chance but after his dismissal, it was very difficult for lone warrior Yuvraj Singh to chase down the huge total.

Yuvraj's 53 from 35 balls (5 fours, 3 sixes) in his debut match for Mumbai Indians weren't enough as the home side lost by 37 runs.

For Delhi Capitals, both Ishant Sharma and Kagiso Rabada took two wickets each.

The new-look DC franchise have won their IPL opening game for the first time since 2013.

Risabh Pant was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his superb knock.
