IPL: Mumbai thrash Kolkata by 6 wickets to win match

Walking in at number six and his team needing 70 odd runs from seven overs, Pollard (51), who scored a 17-ball half-century, hit six sixes and two fours to remain unbeaten with his skipper and give his side a much needed win.

Rohit, who was elected the Player of the match, remained unbeaten at 68 from 49 balls and played second fiddle to his Caribbean teammate but held the innings together. He too hit eight boundaries and two sixes.

Mumbai had a poor start as they lost their first wicket for eight runs in form of Parthiv Patel (1).

A steady partnership of 59 runs between MI skipper Rohit Sharma and the in-form Ambati Rayadu (32) set things up for them.

Though Kolkata came back strongly to pick up wickets of Krunal Pandya (6) and Jos Buttler (15), Keiron Pollard's free striking paved a safe passage for his side.

Put to bat first, the KKR batsmen scored 174 runs for the loss of five wickets.

Kolkata skipper Gautam Gambhir top-scored with 59 runs. His 45-ball knock consisted of six fours and a six.

Gambhir was also involved in a 69-run partnership with Robin Uthappa (36) for the opening wicket.

The other batsmen too got starts but failed to capitalise on them.

For Mumbai, Tim Southee picked up two wickets, followed by Mitchell McClenaghan, Hardik Pandya and Harbhajan Singh, who picked up a wicket each.
