Kings XI Punjab defeat Rajasthan Royals by 12 runs

Mohali, Apr 16 (UNI ) Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 12 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match, here at IS Bindra Stadium on Tuesday.

This was Punjab's fifth win in nine matches. On the other hand, it was RR's sixth defeat in as many matches.


Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was named Man of the Match. He scored unbeaten 17 runs in just 4 balls, hitting one four and two sixes. The off-break bowler also took two wickets for 24 runs in his four overs.

Chasing a big target of 183 runs, RR were off to a good start as Rahul tripathi and Jos Buttler put on 38 runs for the opening stand in four overs.
Butler was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh for 23 off 17.


Sanju Samson and Tripath stitched up a 59 runs partnership for the second wicket. Samson was clean bowled by Ravichandaran Ashwin for 27 runs in the 12th over.
Tripathi was dismissed by Ashwin for 50 runs in the form of third wicket.


In order to make runs quickly, RR lost two quick wickets -Ashton Turner (0) and Jofra Archer (1).


However, Ajinkya Rahane and Stuart Binny kept RR in the hunt, scoring 13 runs in the 18th over.


In the very next over, Rahane was caught by Arshdeep Singh off Mohammed Sham for 26 runs in the form of 26 off 21 balls. He hit just one boundary.


In the final over, which was bowled by Shami, RR required 23 runs with five wickes in hand. Shami conceded just 10 runs and got one wicket, helping the KXIP to get over the line.


Rahul Tripathi was the highest run-scorer from RR with his 50 runs knock.


For Punjab, Ashwin, Arshdeep Singh and Shami took two wickets each.


Earlier in the day, RR won the toss and put KXIP to bat. Riding on KL Rahul's 52 and David Miller's 40 runs, Punjab posted a challenging total of 182 runs in stipulated 20 overs.


Chris Gayle and Rahul added 38 runs in 5.4 overs for the opening stand. Gayle was the first man to go. He was dismissed by Jofra Archer for 30 runs.
David Miller (40) and KL Rahul helped Punjab to get past 150 runs mark.


Towards the end of the innings, Ashwin took his team's score to 180 runs.


For RR, Jofra Archer was the pick of the bowler as he took three wickets for 15 runs in four overs.
