Ladakh: Over 3,000 participants join in Ladakh Marathon

Ladakh, Sept 14 (IBNS): Around 3,000 participants participated in the third Ladakh Marathon at Leh.

The marathon was organized by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council.

The Ladakh Marathon had four categories namely the Khardung La Challenge Ultra Marathon of 72 Kms, the Full Marathon of 42 Kms, the Half Marathon of 21 Kms and the 7 Kms run in which maximum school children participated.

Interestingly, the Ladakh Marathon is the World’s Highest and Toughest Marathon held at 3,524 meter (11,562 feet) altitude.

The soldiers of Ladakh Scouts performed well in the event.

Rifleman Shabbir Hussain, Rifleman Rigzin Nurboo and Rifleman Tsering Gyatso stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Khardung La Challenge Ultra Marathon of 72 Kms respectively.

Recruit Shokat Ali and Recruit Fayaz Ali secured 1st and 3rd positions respectively in the Full Marathon of 42 Kms.                

Thubstan Tsewang, Member of Parliament Ladakh,  Rigzin Spalbar, Chief Executive Councillor  Leh and  Simrandeep Singh, District Commissioner  Leh graced the event with their presence.

The Indian Army provided full administrative support to the organisers towards smooth conduct of the Marathon.
