MS Dhoni back as CSK captain after Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of IPL 2025

Chennai/IBNS: India's cricket icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni has returned as the captain of Chennai Super Kings after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the remainder of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to elbow injury.

Gaikwad was hit by a delivery of Jofra Archer.

Though he played even after the injury, battling pain, Gaikwad's fracture in his elbow was revealed by a recent MRI.

Speaking of five-time IPL winning captain Dhoni returning as boss, CSK coach Stephen Fleming said the veteran wicketkeeper-batter had no hesitation in re-assuming the role in the crisis.

Dhoni returns as the captain amid CSK's poor run in this year's edition of IPL.

CSK are placed at the ninth spot with two points as the team have lost four out of five matches.

The yellow brigade under Dhoni's captaincy will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday.
