My opportunity to learn: Indian coach Rahul Dravid ahead of Sri Lanka series

Mumbai/IBNS: Indian cricket coach Rahul Dravid, who will be guiding some young talents in Sri Lanka, has said the upcoming limited overs series would be "an opportunity" for him "to learn".

Dravid and Shikhar Dhawan have been appointed as the Indian team's coach and captain respectively for the Sri Lankan tour as regular skipper Virat Kohli, head coach Ravi Shastri will not be part of the unit.

Excited about his new job, Dravid said, "It's a great blend of experienced and completely new players. As a coach, it's quite an exciting situation (for me) because there is a great opportunity for learning if the right environment can be created (in the team). In these long trips, the opportunities for learning happen to be immense.

"So from that perspective, I am really looking forward to that. Also it would be an opportunity for me to learn as a coach... It is yet another opportunity for me to learn and better myself as a coach. So very much excited to work for the team."

The former Indian cricket captain, who had led India to win crucial Test series in West Indies and England, is presently the head of National Cricket Academy.

Under his coaching, India had won the Under-19 World Cup in 2018.

Dhawan-led India will play three ODIs and the same number of T20Is beginning on Jul 13.
