New Zealand start T20 Cup campaign by beating Australia by 89 runs in opening game
Sydney: All-round performance by New Zealand helped the squad beat Australia by 89 runs in the opening match of the T20 World Cup here on Saturday.
New Zealand posted 200 runs for the loss of three wickets in their quota of 20 overs with Devon Conway smashing stylish unbeaten 92 runs and then the Kiwi bowlers bowled out the champions for 111 runs.
Conway smashed nine boundaries and two sixes in his knock.
Finn Allen (42) and Kane Williamson (23) added crucial runs which helped New Zealand post 200 on the scorecard.
James Neesham contributed 26 runs.
Josh Hazlewood picked up two wickets for Australia.
Pat Cummins remained expensive and gave away 46 runs in his quota of four overs.
In return, New Zealand bowlers absolutely dominated the proceedings and bowled out the opponents for 111.
Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner picked up three wickets while Trent Boult took two.
