Novak Djokovic lifts his 6th Australian Open Men's Singles title, equals record

Melbourne, Jan 31 (IBNS) Novak Djokovic equaled Roy Emerson's record as the Serbian lifted his 6th Australian Open Men's Singles title beating rival Andy Murray, here on Sunday.

Djokovic won the match in straight-sets, beating Murray 6-1 7-5 7(7)-6(3).

The world number one now has 11 Grand Slam wins and is leveled with Rod Laver and Bjorn Borg.

His win also triggered a massive celebrations by his fans.

Receiving his runners up plate, Andy Murray said, "I just want to congratulate Novak. What he has done, it’s incredible. To him and his team, well done."

He also thanked his supporters.

"Sorry I couldn’t get it done tonight. It’s been a tough couple of weeks and I thank you all for your support," Murray said.

Murray also thanked the ex-players who turned up as audience.

"To all of the ex-players watching, thank you for coming. It makes it extra special playing in front of you."

Lauding Murray, Novak Djokovic said, "Andy you are a great champion & friend. I'm sure you'll have more opportunities to fight for this trophy."

"Thank you to my team. A Grand Slam is unique, we all breathe as one. We live each hour with a purpose," Djoker said.
