Islamabad: Pakistani cricketers reacted to Indian cricketer Virat Khli's decision to quit as Test skipper of the national side after serving the nation for seven years and expressed shock over their move.

Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir tweeted: "@imVkohli brother for me u are a true leader of upcoming generation in cricket because u are inspiration for young Cricketers. keep rocking on and of the field."

Another top cricketer from across the border Ahmad Shehzad said: "That flare of passion with which you led your side was visible in your captaincy. It’s been 7 years of fearless leadership, quality spirit of cricket and a great ambassadorship of the game. Best wishes for the future bro @imVkohli , keep rocking."

Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday resigned as the leader of the team, justa day after his squad lost the Test series against South Africa by 2-1 margin.

With his resignation, Kohli's seven years role as the leader of the Indian squad comes to an end.

Kohli made the announcement by posting his statement on social media.

He had taken up the leadership task in 2015 after MS Dhoni quit as Test skipper during the series against Australia.

Earlier he had stepped down as T20 captain.

He made the announcement to resign as T20 skipper just before the T20 World Cup in the UAE.

India's performance in the tournament remained dismal as the Men In Blue could not cross the group stage of the tournament.

Kohli even received a jolt when Pakistan beat India in the opening match of their World Cup campaign.

It was the first time India lost a World Cup match against the neighbors.

Later, he was removed as the ODI captain by the selectors.

Kohli remained one of the most successful skippers to lead the Indian team.

He registered 40 wins by leading India in 68 matches.

Under his leadership, India reached the number one position in Test ranking.

He led the India squad which faced New Zealand in the World Test Championship final in Southampton last year.

New Zealand had defeated India in the match to win the inaugural tournament.
