The vibrant village of Mithapur erupted in celebration as the local heroes, former hockey captain Manpreet Singh and his teammate Mandeep Singh, secured a bronze medal in the recent international tournament.

Despite the team’s initial goal of clinching gold, the Singh families expressed immense pride and joy, declaring the bronze as a victory worth cherishing.

Elated parents of the star players gathered in jubilant festivity, dancing and distributing laddoos, as they offered their heartfelt gratitude to the Almighty for the team’s commendable performance. Throughout the match, both families were deeply immersed in prayer, their hopes pinned on a gold finish.

Mandeep Singh’s father, reflecting on the rollercoaster of emotions experienced during the tournament, admitted feeling a twinge of restlessness after the team’s gold medal dream was dashed. However, he was quick to express his pride in the team’s resilience and skill. “The way the team played, I feel so proud,” he remarked.

In a delightful twist of fate, the Singh family announced a double celebration. Mandeep Singh is set to marry a fellow hockey player from Haryana in November, adding a personal milestone to the joyous occasion. The families plan to commemorate both events with a grand celebration featuring traditional drum beats, lively dancing, and a lavish feast in their village.

Manpreet Singh’s mother, Manjit Kaur, shared her sentiments following the team’s match against Germany. “The day the team was defeated by Germany, Manpreet called and said, ‘Ajj sada din nai si, kuch galatiya sigiya’ (Today was not our day, we made some mistakes). But, despite everything, they have managed to secure bronze, and that’s what truly matters.”

As the celebrations continue, the proud parents of Manpreet and Mandeep are preparing to travel to Amritsar to receive their sons. The last medal win had seen a grand function at the Police Athletic Association grounds, and this time, Mithapur’s celebrations promise to be equally spectacular.
