President, Prime Minister congratulate PV Sindhu

New Delhi, Aug 27 (IBNS): President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated PV Sindhu after the Indian badminton player settled for silver in the World Championship on Sunday.

Sindhu was defeated in the final of the tournament by her Japanese opponent.

President of India's official Twitter page said: "Well done Sindhu & Saina. India is very proud of you & your medals. Congrats to Japan's Okuhara for an incredible victory #PresidentKovind."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: "Well played @Pvsindhu1! We are proud of your game at the @2017BWC finals. Congratulations."

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said Sindhu made India proud by clinching medal at the tournament.

"Well played PV #Sindhu. You made the country proud. Congratulations," Office of RG tweeted.

Indian badminton star PV Sindhu failed to deliver in the final of the World Badminton Championships as she was defeated by her Japanese opponent here on Sunday.

Nozomi Okuhara defeated the Indian player 19-21, 22-20, 20-22 in the final match.

The final match witnessed strong fight between the two opponents.

Sindhu made her first final appearance in the World Championship on Sunday.

She had settled for bronze medal in the tournament in 2013 and 2014 where she was defeated in the semis.

She settled for silver this time.

India's other badminton sensation Saina Nehwal won bronze.

Congratulating Sindhu, BAI Media tweeted: "Heart-break for PV Sindhu. But we have just witnessed a match for the ages. 110 minutes of absolutely breath-taking badminton."
