Mumbai/IBNS: Mohammad Kaif was one of the few players in Sourav Ganguly's 'Team India' who was capable of frightening the opponents with his electrifying fielding.

Turning back the pages of Indian cricket, VVS Laxman, one of the legends of the Indian team, lauded Kaif in an Instagram post on Friday.

In a long post, Laxman, who shared the Indian dressing room with Kaif on a number of series, called the outstanding fielder a "product of India’s robust grassroots structure."

Laxman wrote, "A product of India’s robust grassroots structure, @mohammadkaif87 inspired an entire generation of players from Uttar Pradesh to shed their insecurities and play at the highest level. His electric fielding soon became the benchmark that thousands strived to emulate."

Born in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad, Kaif was one of the few players to play in the national team from the northern state as of July 2005.

After losing his place from the Indian team for a long time, Kaif took his retirement in 2018.
