Paris, July 1 (IBNS): Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday announced Marquinhos has signed a three-year contract extension.

The Brazil international is now tied to the capital club until June 30, 2022.

After coming through the youth academy at SC Corinthians and arriving in Paris from AS Roma in 2013, the 23-year-old has sent out a strong signal by deciding to write for many more years to come his story with Paris Saint-Germain.

In the Rouge-et-Bleu shirt, Marquinhos has already played 161 competitive games (13 goals) and won several trophies: three Ligue 1 titles (2014, 2015, 2016), four Coupes de la Ligue (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), three Coupes de France (2015, 2016, 2017) and two Trophées des champions (2014, 2015).

In 2016, he won the Olympic goal medal at the Games in Rio, and after winning 19 caps for the Seleçao, looks set to play at next year's FIFA World Cup in Russia.

After Edinson Cavani, Thiago Silva and Presnel Kimpembe signed contract extensions, 'Marqui' following suit confirms the Club's desire to consolidate the core of the squad, basing it on experienced players and young talents.

"Marquinhos' contract extension brings me great satisfaction," said Nasser Al-Khelaifi, CEO and Chairman of Paris Saint-Germain. "As well as being a fantastic player, Marquinhos is an extremely nice guy and always has a great attitude. Since he arrived in Paris, Marquinhos has developed a very strong relationship with our club, the fans and the city whose colours we proudly wear. In four years, he has continually grown in our team and we have seen him become, little by little, one of the best defenders in the world, even though he is still very young. Marquinhos deeply believes in Paris Saint-Germain's ability to satisfy his ambitions and take him to the summit of international football."
