Doha, May 17 (Sputnik/UNI) The first stadium, built for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, opened on Thursday in Al Wakrah, a suburban area of Qatar's capital city Doha, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

The 40,000-seat stadium was built by Zaha Hadid Architects and has a form of a typical fishing boat in the Persian Gulf, called dhow.

The stadium with the 92-meter fully retractable roof has a cooling system and can be used all-year-round.

The FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
