Ramanathan enters singles quarters, doubles semis in Murray Trophy Challenger

Chandigarh, Sept 20 (UNI): India's Ramkumar Ramanathan had a field day on Thursday by entering quarter-final in singles and semi-final in doubles,respectively, in the €46,600 Murray Trophy Challenger Tennis Tournament in Glasgow (Great Britain).

Fifth seed Ramanathan registered a creditable straight sets 6-4, 6-1 win in 61 minutes against Botic Van de Zandschulp of Netherlands to claim quarter-final place where he is pitted against 247th ranked Daniel Masur of Germany.

Ramanathan fired seven aces and committed one double faults. He won four out of five break points. The 179th ranked Indian won a total of 56 points. He won total 34 points.

Zandschulp hit four aces and committed three double faults. He saved one out of five break points.

Later, in the doubles quarter-final, Ramanathan, pairing with Marek Gengel of Czech Republic, caused a mild upset by shocking fourth-seeded Polish duo of Karol Drzewiecki and Szymon Walkow 6-4, 3-6, 10-3 in one hour and 13 minutes.

Ramanathan /Gengel registered eight aces and five double faults. They saved three break points out of four and won one break point out of one. Ramanathan /Gengel won 53 total points.

Drzewiecki/Walkow served five aces and committed one double fault. The Polish duo won one break points out of 4 and won 53 points.
