Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians defeat SunRisers Hyderabad in Super Over to reach Playoffs
Wankhede, May 3 (UNI) Mumbai Indians qualified for the playoffs as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by two wickets in super over in the IPL match here on Thursday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Manish Pandey hit six off the last ball of the inning to take the match to the super over wherein batting first SRH lost two wickets for eight runs, giving Mumbai Indians nine runs target to win the match.
While chasing a target, Hyderabad got a decent start as the openers Wriddhiman Saha and Martin Guptil added 40 runs for the first wicket.
However, Jasprit Bumrah didn't allow them to add more runs and sent both the openers to the pavilion. Wriddhiman was dismissed on a score of 25 runs off 15 balls, while Guptil walked to pavilion after adding 17 runs to his team's total with Manish Pandey as Bumrah lbw Guptil.
Pandey hit fifty to Keep Hyderabad in hunt and tried enough to guide his team towards victory, but it wasn't possible as from the other end none of the batsmen supported him, and were dismissed one after another. Pandey scored 71 runs off 47 balls with the help of 8 fours and 2 sixes and remained unbeaten.
Hyderbad skipper Kane Williamson too failed to contribute and walked to pavilion on score of three runs. He was lbw by Krunal Pandya.
Later, Vijay Shankar played some shots and gave hope to Pandey, but he too failed to contribute much and after adding 33 runs with Pandey, he was caught by Kieron Pollard on Krunal Pandya's ball in 13th over.
After Abhishek Sharma departure in 14th over, Mohammad Nabi took the charge with Pandey to guide Hyderabd towards vicktory. Nabi played handsomely and stitched a 49-runs-partnership with Pandey for the sixth wickets. Later, Nabi was caught by Suryakumar Yadav on Pandya's ball. He scored 31 runs of 20 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes.
Later, the match went in super over.
For Mumbai Jasprit Bumrah,Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya took two wickets each.
