Ronaldo poses main threat to Atletico's European ambitions

Madrid, Feb 19 (Xinhua) Atletico Madrid will face Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash on Wednesday in their Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, and Cristiano Ronaldo is no doubt a major threat.

To say the former Real Madrid striker has a good record against Atletico is putting it mildly: Ronaldo scored 22 goals in 31 appearances during his time in Spain and only Leo Messi with 25 goals has done more damage to Atletico in their career.

Only Sevilla (27) and Getafe (23) have suffered more at Ronaldo's hands than Atletico, but the Spanish side will take heart from one things: he has actually failed to hit the target in 17 of those 31 games, with three hat-tricks and two doubles in the 14 matches where he has scored against them.

Ronaldo travels to Madrid following his summer move from Real Madrid to Juventus and he has maintained his scoring form with the Italians, with 19 league goals in 24 appearances in Serie A.

However, he hasn't been quite as effective in Europe with just one goal in his five Champions League appearances to date and he missed one game in the group stage after being sent off for two yellow cards in September.
