Leeds, July 18 (IBNS): Joe Root hammered a century and Eoin Morgan added 88 runs as England defeated India by eight wickets in the third ODI match to clinch the series here on Tuesday.

England won the series 2-1 and bounced back sharply after being beaten in the T20 series by the same opponent.

After restricting India at 256 runs for the loss of eight wickets, England then went ahead to score 260 runs by losing two wickets and 33 balls to spare.

James Vince (27) and  Jonny Bairstow (30) provided England a quick-fire start but soon departed to leave the side struggling at 2-74.

Root and Morgan joined the party and reached the winning target without any further damage.

They added an unbroken partnership of 186 runs.

After the defeat, Indian captain Virat Kohli was quoted as saying by BBC: "Against England you need to be at your best. Credit goes to them."
