Sehwag smashes 55, Sachin's side post 140-8

New York, Nov 8 (IBNS): In an exhibition match aiming to globalise cricket, former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's 'Sachin's Blasters' were restricted at 140 for eight in the first match of the three-match series against Warne's Warriors here on Saturday.

In a match between all former international cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar (26) and Virender Sehwag (55) opened the batting like old days and added 85 runs in the first wicket partnership.

Sehwag's showed his class and played some of his signature flashy shots all around the park in his  22-ball knock.

He hammered six over boundaries and three boundaries which set the stage on fire.

Sachin was giving him good company on the other end while smashing two boundaries and six in his 27-ball innings.

After Sachin was dismissed by former Australian cricketer Shane Warne, followed by Sehwag, the side lost momentum with ex-cricketers returning to the pavilion one after the other.

VVS Laxman (8),  Brian Lara (1), Mahela Jayawardene (18) and Carl Hooper (11) failed to contribute with their willows.

Fans cheered aloud every shot as the former cricketers showed their skills on the ground after a long time.

Warne and Andrew Symonds shined with the ball as they took three wickets each with Daniel Vettori and Allan Donald picked up single wicket apiece.

Shane's team will need to score 141 runs to win the match.
