Shubman Gill ruled out of second Test in Guwahati after neck injury; Rishabh Pant to lead India

India suffered a major setback ahead of the second Test against South Africa as captain Shubman Gill has been ruled out due to a neck injury sustained during the first Test in Kolkata.

Gill injured his neck on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test and was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation after the close of play.

He remained under observation and was discharged the following day.

The opener later travelled with the squad to Guwahati on November 19, hoping to regain fitness in time for the match.

However, despite initial improvement, medical staff confirmed that Gill was not fully fit to participate in the second Test. He will now return to Mumbai for further assessment and treatment.

With Gill unavailable, Rishabh Pant has been appointed to lead the Indian side in the crucial Guwahati fixture.

The second Test will begin on Saturday.

India are trailing South Africa 0-1 in the two-match series.
