Tokyo/Xinhua: The Japan Sumo Association said on Tuesday that it will hold a two-day tournament in August as part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic cultural program.

Designed to bring more international attention to the Japanese traditional sport, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Grand Sumo Tournament will take place at Ryogoku Kokugikan arena in east Tokyo on Aug. 12 to 13, just days after the Olympics end.

According to the organizers, the tournament will give visitors from overseas an opportunity to watch the sport while public broadcasts at the arena will be made in Japanese and English during the competitions.

Around 7,000 spectators are expected to watch the competitions each day and the viewing area will be accessible for wheelchair users, said the organizers.
The Tokyo Olympic Games will be held from July 24 to August 9, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 25 to September 6.
