Six more fights of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships were held at K.D. Jadhav Indoor Hall in New Delhi on Sunday.

Indian boxers were awarded the Best Team of the tournament, being also the most successful one with four gold medals.

Team China finished second with 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals, the Russian team is in third place with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.

On Sunday, a local superstar Nikhat Zareen claimed her second world title in a row defending Thi Tam Nguyen of Vietnam in a tough contest. Her success was achieved in a new weight category, 50 kg.

"It feels surreal to win this gold in front of my home crowd. Now I will celebrate, after taking a break and preparing for the Asian Games. My final opponent was an Asian champion, she was a tough one for me.

"My strategy was to go inside and attack as much as possible. I made it and it worked successfully, I am really happy," Nikhat Zareen said.

Huang Hsiao-wen claimed her second title in 54kg division following success in Ulan Ude 2019. Today, she won against Yeni Arias from Colombia in a spectacular fight.

Brazilian Beatriz Ferreria and Angie Valdez from Colombia delivered one of the most exciting fights of the evening.

In their 60kg contest, Ferreira was stronger, and the Brazilian celebrated her victory with a dance. It’s Ferreira’s third World Championships medal, as she previously had gold and silver from the 2019 and 2022 editions.

Later on, Ferreira was awarded the Best boxer trophy.

In a 66kg bout, Yang Liu from China fought against Janjaem Suwannapheng from Thailand, and the Chinese, silver medallist of 2019 edition, claimed her gold medal.

Home favorite Lovlina Borgohain had a tough fight against the Australian Caitlin Parker. The bout review’s split decision confirmed Borgohain’s success to the excitement of the local public.

In the final fight, Khadija Mardi of Morocco overcame Kazakhstan’s Lazzat Kungeibayeva in their +81kg contest.
