Mumbai, June 10 (IBNS): An excited Sunil Chhetri, who guided his team to victory in the final match against Kenya, thanked fans in India for filling up the stand during the national side's matches of the Intercontinental Cup.

India defeated Kenya 2-0 in the final of the tournament to lift the trophy.

" What a feeling! Thank you, India! This win is for the fans who filled the stands, cheered from home and backed and believed in us. The boys and staff pulled together and now it’s time to enjoy. We regroup soon because the road is long - very long. #Champions," Sunil tweeted.

Sunil crafted both the goals for India in the match.

The tournament assumed significance as Sunil had urged his fans via a video post to visit stadiums and watch Indian team play against international sides.

The message was also echoed by other sportsmen, including cricket captain Virat Kohli, who also asked Indian fans to fill up stadiums when the national side play against international opponents.
