Tokyo/IBNS: India succeeded on the seventh day of Tokyo Olympics 2020 as the South Asian team entered into quarterfinals in three sports and pre-quarterfinals in one Thursday.

India entered into quarterfinals in hockey, badminton and boxing while pre-quarterfinals in archery.

They stormed their way into the quarterfinals of men's hockey defeating the reigning champions Argentina 3-1 in their penultimate league match in Pool A.

Rio silver medalist PV Sindhu sailed into the quarterfinals of women's singles in badminton outplaying Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in straight 21-15 and 21-13.

After the win, Sindhu said, "I started off well. In the first game, I was rushing in defence a bit but my coach told me that I was playing the wrong way and I was able to change how I played.

"And then in the second game I think it was fine, I maintained the lead and was under control."

Indian boxer Satish Kumar moved to the quarterfinals of men's super heavyweight (91 kg) category beating Ricardo Brown of Jamaica in a split verdict 4-1.

Indian archer Atanu Das moved into the pre-quarter finals of men's individual archery event defeating favourite Oh Jinhyek from South Korea 6-5 in a thrilling finish in the round of 16.

Earlier in the day, Atanu defeated Yu-Cheng Deng of Chinese Taipei 6-4 in the round of 32.
