Virat Kohli expresses sadness over loss of lives in Punjab train accident

Mumbai, Oct 20 (IBNS): Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday mourned the loss of lives in the Train mishap in Punjab city of Amritsar during the Dusshera celebrations.

"My prayers are with the families of those affected by the terrible train accident in Amritsar yesterday," Kohli tweeted.

At least 60 people were killed when a train ran over people who were standing on the railway track to watch the burning of Ravana effigy on Friday.

Ravana effigies were burned across the country, including in Amritsar city, as a part of the Dusshera festival.

The Punjab government ordered a state mourning on Saturday.

All offices and educational institutions remained closed in the state.

The accident took place at Dhobi Ghat near Jaura Phatak at 6:45 pm on Friday.

The train was on its way from Jalandhar to Amritsar.

According to reports, a huge crowd gathered at the railway tracks to watch the burning of Ravana effigy which is a part of Dussehra celebrations

When the first train came, they could not hear the sound due to exploding crackers.

According to reports, a second train also ran over the people.
