We are going to be on the same page: Gautam Gambhir on his equation shared with Virat Kohli

Indian team's head coach Gautam Gambhir, whose stint will begin with the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, said his relationship with star batsman Virat Kohli is like the one shared between two 'matured individuals'.

He said both of them are on the 'same page' as far as achieving goals and success for the national team.

"Good for the TRP, but my relationship is not public," Gambhir was quoted as saying by Espncricinfo.

"What kind of relationship do I share with Virat Kohli, I think it is between two mature individuals," he said.

"On the field, everyone has got the right to fight for their own team, for their own jersey, and want to come back in a winning dressing room. But, at the moment, I think you are representing India and representing 140 crore Indians and I am sure we are going to be on the same page and try and make India proud," he said.

Gambhir and Kohli had made it to headlines in 2013 when they exchanged barbs during an IPL clash.

Gambhir was the skipper of the Kolkata squad at that time.

Gambhir stepped into the shoes of Rahul Dravid under whose mentorship India won the T20 World Cup recently by beating South Africa in a last-over thriller.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja quit the shortest format of the game following India's win the World Cup.

Indian selectors on Thursday made a surprise pick when they named Suryakumar Yadav as the skipper of the T20 International squad which will visit the Island Nation to play a limited-over series against Sri Lanka.

Yadav will step into the shoes of T20 World Cup skipper Rohit Sharma who retired from the 20-over format last month after winning the title.

The selectors dropped a surprise since it was widely speculated that Hardik Pandya would be named the captain of the T20 squad after Sharma's resignation.

Shubman Gill, who recently led the Indian team to victory in the T20 series in Zimbabwe, has been named the vice-captain of the squad.

Virat Kohli and Sharma returned to the ODI squad.

Sharma will lead the team in the ODI format in the series against the 1996 World Cup champion team.
