World Cup: Joe Root helps England to thrash Windies by 8 wickets

Southampton, Jun 14 (IBNS): Riding on Joe Root's century, England thrashed Windies by eight wickets in a World Cup match at The Rose Bowl here on Friday.

Batting first, Windies were bowled out for 212 in 44.4 overs.

Nicholas Pooran was the top scorer for Windies with his 63.

In reply, England scored the required runs with almost 17 overs to spare.

Root remained unbeaten at 100. Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes scored 45 and 40 respectively.
