World T20: New Zealand upset India, win match by 47 runs

Chasing a score of 127 runs on a turning wicket, the Indian batsmen were left high and dry as the Kiwi spinners led by Mitchell Santner picked up 9 wickets, thus equaling the world record.

Santner's 4 wickets for 11 runs was the best performance of the match. He also picked up the Player of the Match award.

Accompanying Santner was Ish Sodhi with 3 wickets. The Punjab born lad picked up Virat Kohli in the very first ball of his spell and thus left the Indian fans bitter faced.

For India, apart from skipper Dhoni (30) and his deputy Virat Kohli (26), the others barely contributed anything significant.

New Zealand's win is deemed a major upset as tournament favourites were tamed in their very first match.

Earlier India restricted the Kiwis for 126 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, after the Kiwis won the coin toss and decided to bat first.

India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni started operations with Ravichandran Ashwin and the spinner was tonked for a 86 meter six in the very first ball by Martin Guptill, before his two-ball innings was cut short by the spinner who sent him back to the pavilion by trapping him right on front.

Colin Munro, who walked in at number three, hit a six in the very over but was gone in the ensuing Ashish Nehra over as he tried scooping one over mid-off which ended up being an easy catch for Hardik Pandya.

The Indian bowlers tightened their grip as Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson (8) succumbed to the pressure and played in the hands of part timer Suresh Raina.

Ross Taylor (10) too did not last long and was eventually run out by Raina.

Apart from Corey Anderson (34) and Luke Ronchi (21), none of the other Kiwi batters got going.

For India, Ashwin, Bumrah, Nehra, Raina and Jadeja picked up a wicket each.
