Kolkata bridge disaster: Calcutta HC grants permission to file PIL, police lodge suo motu FIR

Kolkata, Sep 5 (IBNS): A day after a portion of Majherhat railway over bridge (ROB) collapsed, the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted permission to an advocate to lodge a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) into the disaster while the city police has registered a suo motu FIR against the bridge's maintenance agencies, reports said.

Kolkata, Jul 27 (IBNS): The Calcutta High Court on Thursday granted bail to two senior leaders of ultra-left organization Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Red Star, Pradip Singh Thakur and Sharmistha Chaudhury, who were arrested in January for their alleged role in a local movement at Bhangar in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district.

Kolkata, Jan 13 (IBNS): Rejecting Kolkata Police's decision, a division bench of the Calcutta High Court, led by Justice Joymalya Bagchi, on Friday granted permission to BJP's ideological fountainhead Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to host Mohan Bhagwat's rally in city's Brigade Parade Ground, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday.
