Cathay Pacific aims to work with Hong Kong International Airport for normal flight operations

In a statement, Cathay Pacific said, "Cathay Pacific continues to work with the HKIA officials to ensure the return of normal flight operations as swiftly as possible. We firmly
believe that social order and stability must be restored in our hub - Hong Kong so that the long-term development and prosperity of the city can again become our priority."

In a message to the Indians, the airline said, "For the India market, we would like to share that at present, all flights from Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata to Hong Kong and return are operating as per schedule for 15 and 16 August 2019. However, all passengers are requested to check the Flight Status online before proceeding to the airport."

In order to provide our customers with as much flexibility as possible, we are also waiving charges on certain ticket changes for passengers scheduled to travel on 15 and 16 August, 2019. Passengers are advised to check our Travel Advisory and Special Ticketing Guidelines section online for further information. For passengers whose flights were disrupted on 12 and 13 August have been rebooked onto new flights – email notifications have been sent with new flight rearrangements," the airline said in the statement.  

Hong Kong, a former British colony, is witnessing a massive protest against the 2019 Hong Kong Extradition Bill which, if passed, would allow local authorities to detain and extradite people.

The protest which began in March and April escalated in June with several agitators clashing with police.

Meanwhile, Beijing targeted Cathay Pacific over its employees' involvement in the protest. Amid pressure, Cathay Pacific CEO Rupert Hogg resigned on Friday.
