DGCA asks passengers not to carry 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops on flights

New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday issued a notice barring all passengers from carrying older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops on flight over the risk of overheating and fire.

The directive came after Apple on June 20 informed about the risks which can be posed by MacBook Pro laptops.

In a message, Director General of Civil Aviation Arun Kumar said, "Consequent upon the recall of a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops by M/S Apple Inc. (sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017) due to fears that their batteries may overheat and pose a safety risk, DGCA requests all air passengers not to fly with the affected models either as hand-baggage or checked-in baggage until the battery has been verified/certified as safe or replaced by the manufacturer."

Apple has said it will voluntarily replace batteries without any cost.
