Maharashtra Tourism supports Presidency Group in introducing Koyana in Mahabaleshwar

Mumbai, Jan 17(IBNS): Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation is supporting Presidency group, Koyana Mahabaleshwar in introducing Koyana, an unexplored tourist destination in Mahabaleshwar.

In order to increase the tourist footfall and to promote Koyana, Mahabaleshwar as a tourist destination, Presidency Group will also be organizing Koyana International Patang Utsav, a spectacle of mega kite events on Jan 29.

Mahabaleshwar is the largest hill station in the Sahyadri range of Maharashtra state.

It is situated at an altitude of 1372m above the sea level in Satara district, about 115km southwest of Pune. Koyana Nagar has been identified as the most beautiful and natural scenic location with important historic places and thick green plantations. During monsoons, it is a delight to see the Koyna Dam overflowing.

Dr. K.H. Govinda Raj IAS, Managing Director, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation stated, “Mahabaleshwar is a hill station in India's forested Western Ghats range, south of Mumbai; Maharashtra the Koyna River is famous for the Koyna Dam and the Koyna Hydroelectric Project. Today the Koyna Hydroelectric Project is the largest completed hydroelectric project in India. The reservoir — Shivasagar Lake, is a huge lake of 50 km in length. Due to its electricity generating potential through Koyna Hydroelectric Project, Koyna River is known as the Life Line of Maharashtra.  To increase the tourist footfall and to make this unexplored destination visible for the tourist we are supporting this initiative of International Patang Utsav 2017."

Swati Kale, General Manager, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation said, “This year has been declared as Visit Maharashtra 2017 by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. Devendra Fadnavis. As a step to achieve the same, we are delighted to be associated with Presidency Group, Mahabaleshwar in introducing Koyana destination. Mahabaleshwar is blessed with the impounded water of the Koyna Dam has helped a lot to the surrounding forest by supplying water all-round the year. Hence a wide biodiversity of plants and animals is observed in the evergreen forest surrounding the reservoir area. This initiative will not only increase tourism activities in the destination, but also generate employment opportunities for the locals of new Mahabaleshwar.”
