No phones allowed! Kedarnath Temple issues strict ban as Char Dham Yatra begins

The opening of Gangotri Temple and Yamunotri Temple on April 19 marked the commencement of the 2026 Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. This year, authorities have introduced a strict ban on the use of mobile phones within the premises of Kedarnath Temple.

The doors of Kedarnath Temple and Badrinath Temple are scheduled to open on April 22 and April 23, respectively.

Meanwhile, images and videos circulating on social media show the Kedarnath Temple adorned with marigold flowers, ready to welcome devotees.

Temple committee member Vineet Posti told ANI that the decision was taken to maintain the sanctity of the shrine and ensure the convenience of pilgrims. He said that carrying mobile phones inside the temple premises, as well as taking photos, recording videos, or creating reels, is strictly prohibited.

He added that violators of the rule would face strict legal action.

The Uttarakhand Police have also made elaborate arrangements for the pilgrimage.

Niharika Tomar, Superintendent of Police (SP), Rudraprayag, told ANI that a comprehensive and structured traffic plan has been prepared for the yatra in coordination with neighbouring districts to ensure smooth movement during peak hours.

“A detailed traffic plan has been formulated for the yatra in the district. Coordination has been established with nearby districts. The traffic system has been divided into two super zones and 11 sectors. Additionally, 13 mobile force teams have been constituted. A diversion plan will also be implemented in case of increased traffic pressure,” she said.
