Singapore Tourism Board hosts travel trade roadshow in Kolkata, India is second largest source market for the nation

Kolkata:  The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) on Monday hosted a roadshow in Kolkata with an aim to attract more tourists from India in the upcoming days and also showcase the new attractions which the country is offering to the visitors.

Apart from Kolkata, roadshows will be held in Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

"We are looking to engage more than 200 travel agent partner friends from Kolkata," Singapore Tourism Board Regional Director (South Asia, Middle East, and Africa) G.B. Srithar said while addressing a press conference in Kolkata.   .

"We want to deepen our connection. The travel agent fraternity from Kolkata and India are important for us to engage and communicate through them with the consumers in India. It is good that we are getting an opportunity to engage with travel agent partner friends in India," he said elaborating the purpose of conducting the roadshows.

"The roadshow also aims to showcase the new products that visitors from India can experience in Singapore which include the Museum of Ice Cream," he said.

Speaking further on the Kolkata roadshow, he said: "Kolkata is an important source market and amongst the 14 cities with direct flight connectivity to Singapore. We were happy to re-connect with our partner-friends in Kolkata and invite their clients to come, enjoy in Singapore.”

He said Singapore welcomed 1.41 million visitors from India in 2019.

"India was the third largest key source market in 2019," he said.

After Singapore reopened doors for all vaccinated travellers from April, the country has received 219,000 Indian visitors till June end.

"India is now the second largest source market after Indonesia," he said.

Singapore also welcomed Indians for destination wedding.

The roadshow in Kolkata saw a line-up of some of Singapore’s most prominent attractions, hotels, tour operators, cruise lines and destination management companies (DMCs).
