Winter Carnival 2023: Festivities unfold at Kashmir's hidden gems
Kashmir: As part of the winter carnival in Baramulla district of Kashmir, the District Administration celebrated the snow festival to promote tourism in lesser-known tourist destinations.
The event at MundDaji, Rafiabad of Baramulla district, saw a massive turnout of young people, and athletes and other stakeholders from the entire district took part enthusiastically.
The festival garnered an overwhelming response, not merely from the inhabitants of the locale, but also from ardent enthusiasts of adventurous pursuits.
The occasion bore witness to a plethora of vibrant cultural spectacles, augmented by an array of exhilarating winter activities such as snow trekking, camping, sledge photography, and a showcase of delectable regional cuisine.
The Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, stated that the areas of MundDaji and nearby regions will be developed as tourist attractions in order to provide employment opportunities for the local youth.
Winters in Bandipora have also remained vibrant because of the winter carnival organised by the District Administration.
Earlier, the DC Bandipora was greeted by the indigenous tribal community with traditional songs and dressed in their native attire.
The carnival warmed up the atmosphere and youth were seen actively taking part in winter festivals at select unexplored tourist resorts of the district, reported Good Morning Kashmir.
Despite heavy snow accumulation in the area, there was an unusual rush of young people on Wednesday, from all over the valley at the Authwatto tourist resort. They gathered there to say goodbye to winter and experience the resort's natural beauty.
To discover the possibilities for winter tourism and sports, the District Administration Bandipora partnered with Ali Sports Academy to host a major event at Athwatto, a scenic valley in Bandipora.
“People from other villages would start coming to this place from May when snow melts but this year it is unusual to see a huge rush of people in the village despite huge snow accumulation,” Ali Mohammad Khan, a resident, said to Good Morning Kashmir.
“Today we felt warmth despite sub-zero temperature, the positive energy in youth forced us to come out of our homes as we usually stay indoors in such cold temperature,” said another senior citizen Gh Mohiudin Khatana.
