China aiming to exhaust Taiwan’s defence budget by repeated incursions: observers

| @indiablooms | Oct 12, 2020, at 04:42 am

Beijing: Observers believe that mainland China’s repeated military incursions into Taiwan’s air defence zone are meant to drain the island’s air force and establish the PLA as a regular presence in the area, media reports said.

The incursions were also designed to ramp up pressure on the island and lower the public’s guard to a potential attack, they were quoted as saying by South China Morning Post.

The assessments came a day after the island’s defence ministerYen Te-fav revealed that more than 8 per cent of Taiwan’s military budget for this year had been spent on responding to the incursions, the newspaper reported.

Meanwhile, the island is observing Taiwan National Day on Saturday.

According to BBC report, the  Chinese Government sees Taiwan as a breakaway province that will eventually be part of the country again.
