Pakistan faith healer accused of beating girl during ‘djinn exorcism’
Pakistani police have registered a case against a faith healer for allegedly torturing a girl during a ritual to exorcise a djinn, according to media reports.
Rani Bibi, daughter of Muhammad Azam and a resident of Kot Momin in Sargodha, had gone to visit her cousin, Sumera Bibi, in Bhabhrana village under the jurisdiction of Kandiwal police station in Lalian tehsil. The two reportedly visited faith healer Pir Allah Ditta for treatment.
According to the complaint, the faith healer took Rani to a separate room, where he allegedly punched her and beat her with a stick on her face and other parts of her body, Dawn reported.
The girl reportedly fell unconscious following the alleged assault. Her clothes were also allegedly torn during the incident.
When Rani did not emerge from the room for a long time, her cousin reportedly went looking for her and found her unconscious.
She was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment, while the suspect allegedly fled the scene.
Kandiwal police have registered a case under Sections 354, 506, 342 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and launched an investigation, according to Dawn.
The allegations are subject to investigation.
