India condemns terror attack in Afghanistan

New Delhi/IBNS: Indian government on Saturday condemned the attack in Kabul city of Afghanistan which left 27 people killed.

"India strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack at the event commemorating Shaheed Mazari in Kabul today, where a number of senior political leaders were present," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

"We express heartfelt condolences to the relatives of the deceased and the injured and to the Government and people of Afghanistan.The international community must unite in the fight against terrorism and hold the perpetrators and sponsors of terrorism to account," read the statement.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack in Kabul on Friday which claimed 27 lives.

SITE Intelligence Group Director Rita Katz  tweeted: "BREAKING: #ISIS quickly claims responsibility for multi-faceted (guns, explosives, projectiles) commando raid that resulted in at least 27 killed and 29 wounded (per officials) in the #Afghanistan capital #Kabul, marking its 2nd high-casualty attack in the city in 2 weeks."

An attack took place at a ceremony on Friday, which was marking the anniversary of the death of Abdul Ali Mazari, leader of the Hezb-e Wahdat party, where Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and other politicians were attending,  and left 27 people killed, media reports said.

Nusrat Rahimi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Affairs, told Tolo News that according to their initial information, 27 people were killed, and 29 others were wounded in today's attack on the politicians' gathering in Kabul.

Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, former president Hamid Karzai, the head of the High Peace Council Mohammad Karim Khalili, Second Deputy Chief Executive Mohammad Mohaqiq and a number of other politicians attended the event that was held to mark the 25th anniversary of the death of Abdul Ali Mazari, leader of the Hezb-e Wahdat party, reported the news portal.

The attack reportedly took place at around 11.20 am.

The gunmen reportedly attacked from a nearby under-construction building.
