Abuja, July 29 (IBNS): Suspected Boko Haram terrorists opened fire on a funeral in Nigeria's north-eastern state of Borno and left 65 people killed, media reports said on Monday.

Gunmen arrived on motorcycles and in vans at the village near the state capital, Maiduguri, on Saturday, eyewitnesses told BBC.

Local government official Muhammed Bulama was quoted as saying by BBC that he thought the latest attack was in revenge for the killing of 11 Boko Haram fighters by the villagers two weeks ago.

Twenty-one people were killed in the initial attack on the funeral, and another 44 people were killed while trying to escape the attack, Bulama told CNN.

The incident left 10 people hurt.
