Pakistan: Swabi elders form committee to expel transgender from district

| @indiablooms | Sep 14, 2025, at 09:11 pm

A group of Pakistani elders have formed an 11-member committee in Swabi region and declared that all transgender persons would be expelled from the district, media reports said.

The development came after a Wednesday incident when the transgender people and participants of a music programme used “abusive language” against the police over the latter’s bid to stop the event, reported Dawn News.

The police later arrested 226 people by launching a crackdown.

The arrested people included two transgender.

Maulana Haqqani, who is one of the members of the committe, told Dawn News: “We don’t want our youth to get involved in wrong activities and wish to create an environment where everyone earn livelihood with dignity and honour.”

Maulana Samad told the newspaper that the committee wanted transgender persons to leave the district peacefully and earn their livelihood elsewhere because as long as they lived here, music shows would be arranged, negatively impacting youth.

Yasir Khan said the police would be involved in expelling the community members if they do not follow their intial pleading of leaving the district peacefully.

“We are determined to achieve our target,” he said.

According to reports, the transgender persons, meanwhile, said their expulsion will never happen.
