Bengaluru: Heavy rainfall in Bengaluru has caused major disruptions in air travel, leading to the diversion of at least 10 flights to Chennai, airport officials confirmed on Saturday, reported NDTV.

The inclement weather has resulted in delays and diversions, affecting flight schedules and inconveniencing passengers.

Leading airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, have issued advisories, urging travellers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

In a post on X, IndiGo acknowledged the operational impact of the weather and assured passengers of timely updates.

"We’re closely tracking the weather and will provide timely updates. We encourage passengers to check their flight status for real-time information. Flexible rebooking and refund options are available through our website," IndiGo stated.

Air India also confirmed that air traffic congestion caused by heavy rains has disrupted flight operations.

"We advise all passengers to verify their flight status before proceeding to the airport," the airline said in a statement on X.

The downpour brought much-needed relief to Bengaluru residents after enduring intense heat.

Several parts of the city witnessed strong winds and heavy showers, while hailstorms were reported in Hosakote, Bengaluru Rural district.

An X user shared a video capturing hailstones pounding the area.
